The 50s is hailed by many as the “age of television” – and that’s because watching TV became a new and exciting form of entertainment.

When it comes to television shows, we might be more spoilt for choice than ever nowadays, but there’s something special and nostalgic about the early shows that emerged in the 50s and 60s.

TVs were brand new

In the 50s, many people got their first experience of watching TV – usually at a neighbor’s home down the road. But by the early 60s, it was common for most households to have their own TV.

From entertainment to education

You might remember that the 60s saw the introduction of more educational and informational programming on TV, which wasn’t for everybody.

But alongside these slightly tamer programs came a variety of other shows, and there was plenty to keep people of every age entertained.

If you grew up in the 50s and 60s, you might remember one or two TV shows that always seemed to be playing while your mom cooked dinner or your grandparents came round for a cup of tea.
