Worried students think teacher’s daily coffee syrup is booze
They thought she was getting tipsy while in class but kept it to themselves, until one day a student whispered in her ear.

We all love our morning coffee, but teachers especially need the magical elixir before dealing with a classroom full of students.

Shannon Maxey is one such coffee-loving teacher who lives in Florida and teaches third grade.

She even has a Keurig machine in her classroom so she can get quick and easy access to a fresh cup when she wants one.

“I drink coffee every single morning when my kids come in,” Shannon told Buzzfeed.

And instead of paying a premium for delicious Starbucks specialty coffees, Shannon gets the same effect by adding in her own vanilla almond flavored syrup.

She was caught by surprise one day when out of the blue, one of her students wanted to talk to her about something serious.

“Mrs. Maxey, I gotta ask you a question, but I have to whisper and you can’t get mad…Why do you keep liquor by your coffee maker?”

At first she was confused but quickly realized the student was referring to her bottle of flavored syrup!

Of course, she had to set the record straight.

“Girl that is vanilla syrup for my coffee! You thought I’ve just had liquor out all year?!”

Shannon thought it was hilarious and couldn’t help but wonder if the whole class had been under the same impression.

But then it all started to make sense. She told Buzzfeed that the kids would be surprised and often make a comment any time she went for a second cup of coffee.

She just assumed they were being kids and joking about how much caffeine she was drinking. Maybe they’d over heard their parents razzing each other about it and then wanted to use the same joke on their teacher. But no.

She later asked some other students in the class what they thought about the mysterious bottle.

The kids thought it was hilarious and burst out laughing. It took some convincing, but they finally admit what they ‘knew’.

“We just thought you put beer in your coffee everyday.”

What’s more, is that Shannon always shared her syrup with the other teachers. And sometimes asked one of her students to deliver the syrup to another classroom and then bring it back.

So the kids must have thought all the teachers were sharing a little sneaky booze in the morning!

But they kept their suspicions to themselves, and didn’t tell any other adults about it.

It’s a good thing they had her back… but they probably should have spoken up if they thought she was doing something as bad as drinking every morning!

“At least I didn’t raise a class of snitches– no one told their parents or admin that Mrs. Maxey was getting lit every morning while teaching.” – Shannon Maxey

Yikes! It’s a good thing she was able to set the record straight.

I had never considered it before, but now that the kids have pointed it out… those syrup bottles really do look like liquor bottles!

They’re also clearly labelled “vanilla almond syrup”, but you can’t blame the kids for not being able to tell the difference. I’d be more concerned if they could.

Shannon’s Facebook post quickly went viral and has amassed 36,000 likes and been shared more than 28,000 times.

It must be a relief to know that her kids don’t think she has a drinking problem anymore!

She’s certainly taught them a lesson that wasn’t on this years’ agenda.
