The song “Hello” by Adele has been a popular song to cover since its release in 2015. When it comes to singing competitions and talent searches, the performances of Hello can be hit or miss, however this British teen nailed it thanks to the help of some famous characters.

Meet Craig Ball, a contestant on the 2016 season of Britain’s Got Talent who nearly won the grand prize. Unlike most singers who appear on the show who have one amazing voice that wows the judges and sends them on, Craig has many up his sleeve that helped him make it all the way to the semi-finals.

Before appearing on the show, Craig was a maintenance worker. Changing light bulbs, painting, and plumbing were his specialty in central London. “It’s not a very interesting job,” he laughs in an interview. He discovered his singing when he was about 9 and figured with his unique style, he could stand a chance in this competition and hopefully move on from maintenance. He also talked about how it was his friends that were the ones who told him he should audition, but he never really had the self confidence until this season. With his unique style earned him a standing ovation at his first performance on the show.

Judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and David Walliams were all in awe of Craig’s audition. “What a brilliant way to do impressions,” said judge Walliams ” Really, really brilliant act.” Simon Cowell, one of the toughest judges even said, “It was current. It was clever. I think we may have discovered a real star with you.” All the judges were in agreement that Craig was going to go far in this competition and sent him onto the next round with 4 yeses.

Some of his most popular impressions include Ms Piggy and Kermit the Frog, Peter and Stewie Griffin from the show Family Guy, and Shrek and Donkey. The judges were also impressed with the fact that he did some uncommon voices like Minnie and Mickey Mouse, Christopher Walken, and Smeagol from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Simon’s only complaint was of Craig’s Morgan Freeman impression, which he felt wasn’t very good and confused him about what the act really was, but Simon soon changed his tune when he heard the rest of Craig’s impressions.

Craig went on to win the public vote and got first in the semi-finals, however in the finals he lost out to close-up magician Richard Jones who won the whole show and grand prize. Despite having a minor slip-up in the finale (which is forgivable since he has nearly 100 voices in his head), he still brought the whole crowd to their feet for his last performance. You can still check out his Youtube Channel and social media for more covers and characters.
