Hi! Stranger Cat!

Erin Breean and her boyfriend from Austin, Texas usually walk their dog, Murphy, late at night. As Erin told her interview with the Dodo, the temperature was really hot so it was best for them to walk their dog around midnight.

“We’re maybe two blocks from our house, and there’s this cat sitting out at the end of a driveway. Since we walk our dog all the time, we’re pretty familiar with all the neighborhood cats, but I’d never seen this cat,” Erin remembers.

The cat looked really healthy so both Erin and her boyfriend suspected that this cat was lost. It seems that this cat instantly fell in love with Erin and had an instant connection with her but not with Murphy the dog. He even tried to chase down their dog, so the couple decided to separate and Erin’s boyfriend took their dog home.

“The cat sat with me the whole time, rubbing on me and rolling onto his belly to get belly rubs, and he was just so over-friendly,” Erin said in her interview.

As she was walking home, this little guy started following her. As she was talking to him, she started calling him Greg.

The Determined Greg

Erin was surprised that Greg really followed her home and he didn’t show any signs that he has plans of leaving. He stayed outside, staring at Erin’s window – waiting patiently.

Erin became worried so she gave Greg some food and water.

“He sat by that narrow window for over an hour. Eventually, I was like, I just have to ignore him or he’s not going to go back to his house, or wherever he’s from,” Breean said.

Greg wasn’t about to give up that easily!

As she went to the kitchen to get something to eat, she realized that Greg was also on the other side of the window – staring at her.

For four days, Greg kept on watching and following Erin. He was pretty determined to convince her that he deserves a place in that house.

He followed the couple with their nightly walk with Murphy. Most of the time, he’d also try to chase Murphy away.

“You could come down at any time in the night … and all you’d see were these glowing eyes,” Breean told the Dodo

“He would peek in through the blinds. It was completely hilarious and completely creepy … and then after a while, we’d expect him there and look for him. He was always watching you.”

Welcome back, Kylo!

After a few days, a kind volunteer from Austin Lost and Found Pets came by to help. From there, they managed to locate determined Greg’s owner.

They were able to contact Michael Navarrete, who lived in an apartment building a few blocks away. He said that the cat’s name was Kylo and he had accidentally gotten out one night.

All were happy to see Kylo reunited with his Dad.

“The other day, my boyfriend said, ‘I wonder what Greg’s doing,’” Breean recalled. “And I said, ‘Man, me too.’”
