Charlotte was just six-months-old when she learned how to get her owner to let her in fast.

Everyone knows that golden retrievers are as smart as they are friendly. But Charlotte has amazed a whole lot of people with what she’s learned.

It all started when Charlotte was playing in her front yard, as she often does.

She’d had a happy morning, sniffing around.

Eventually, it was time to go inside. Usually, she barked and scratched at the door until her owner heard. But that morning, she had another idea.

She trotted up to the door and leaped up. Then she hit the doorbell.

Naturally, Charlotte’s owner wondered who it could be and why Charlotte wasn’t barking at the visitor.

After a few seconds, Charlotte grew impatient and started barking.

Then the owner arrived, and Charlotte was happy to see her. The owner asked, “Did you ring the doorbell?”

Charlotte went inside.

Confused, the owner looked at her video doorbell and was surprised to see that Charlotte had indeed learned to use the doorbell.

She had never seen anything like it before.

The owner then submitted this footage to Ring, the video doorbell company.

The company managers realized that the world needed to see this footage. So they uploaded it to their YouTube channel. It soon went viral.

To date, Charlotte’s video has gained over 1.1 million views. It also has more than 28,000 likes and 800 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Amazingly, this isn’t the only time that a dog has used a doorbell.

In fact, there are quite a few videos of it happening.

Another video shows three dogs, Lola, Leo and Chewy sitting in a doorway, waiting for their owner to come.

One of the dogs gets frustrated, so he reaches up and presses the doorbell. Then they wait. Sadly, the video cuts out before they get to greet their owner.

That video has slightly fewer views than Charlotte’s video.

Another video shows the porch of a home in the darkness. Suddenly, a dog leaps up and presses on the doorbell. It’s like something from a horror movie!

The doorbell chime rings out.

The dog backs up and waits a little while.

After almost a minute, the dog leaps back up to the doorbell and rings it again. This video has almost 400,000 views.

And there are plenty more videos like this!

Did any of the owners teach their dogs to ring the doorbells, or did they just pick it up from observation?

While Charlotte isn’t the only dog to be seen to use a doorbell, she’s probably the youngest one to do it.

All of the other dogs in those videos look fully grown. So if she can ring the doorbell when she’s six months old, what will she go on to achieve?

At this rate, Charlotte could become the first dog to join Mensa!

Yes, that statement is a joke, but what’s crazy is that dogs do have measurable IQs. Thanks to London School of Economics and the University of Edinburgh, we know that dog intelligence is structured in the same way as humans, thanks to the ways in which they perform across a range of cognitive tasks.

Isn’t that amazing!?
