If there’s one thing that can totally ruin your outdoor experience, it’s finding a mouse in your RV! Whether you think they are absolutely adorable or disgustingly gross, I think we can all agree that nobody wants a mice scurrying around you while you sleep. If you’re looking for peace of mind and a way to protect your food, then you’ll definitely want to check out these simple solutions. Don’t worry; there’s no trap involved!

Bring an Extra Bar of Soap

All it takes is a bar of potent soap, such as Irish Spring, to keep rodents away. Mice, and other burrowing creatures, absolutely hate the strong odor. Simply open up a bar and set it out and you won’t have a problem. You could even use this method around your house!

Check for Holes

Make sure that your RV isn’t mice-friendly by plugging in any holes. Those small spaces make an excellent mouse hangout so remove the option. Remember, mice can squeeze themselves into some pretty small spaces, so even holes as big as a dime need to be plugged. You can use wool, aluminum foil, or another durable material to fill the gaps.

Toss in a Dryer Sheet

Who doesn’t love the amazing smell of a dryer sheet? Pick your favorite scent and place a few around your RV. This method is similar to the bar of soap since the strong scent keeps mice away. Just don’t forget to change out the dryer sheets every few days to keep the smell strong. Mice will definitely seek out some fresh air. Your RV will smell like fresh laundry, and you’ll keep the mice out of there–that sounds like a double win!

Dab Peppermint Oil or Mothballs

Peppermint oil also has a strong scent that will keep the critters out. Don’t use peppermint extract, however, because this does not offer the same desired effect. You can dab a bit of peppermint oil on cotton balls and then strategically place them around your RV. Mothballs aren’t exactly appealing to people either, but you could use this method for when you winterize your RV. Throw in a few mothballs and mice get out of there! You can simply air out your RV before your next use. It’s a small price to pay to keep those little guys out of your stuff.

Bring Along Your Cat

Some people indicate that they bring their cat along for the sole purpose of keeping mice at bay. It could be cool to hang out with your cat while warding off those pesky mice. Not everybody’s cat is a camper, so this is a tip you should use at your own discretion.

Remove Food After Use

Mice will turn your RV into an all-night buffet if you keep food stored in the cupboards. You should make a habit of removing all food sources once you are done with your RV. Mice will move on to other locations if there isn’t food around. Clean your RV from top to bottom to remove all crumbs of food. You don’t want to take any chances!
