Being a young student in today’s world is an otherworldly experience.

Having to be constantly distanced from classmates, wearing masks for lunch, and even taking school pictures seems to be an ordeal. In other words, 2020 has not been a very forgiving year for most of us.

In Mansfield, Texas, a mother was finally excited to have her kindergartener child attend school in-person. It was a sigh of relief to finally be able to see some signs of normalcy, even though the virus was still running around rampant.

Brittany Kinley and her son Mason were pretty ecstatic to get the school-year going. The much anticipated day of school pictures was just around the corner. The two were looking forward to such a momentous event since it was Mason’s first batch of school pictures taken. What happens next may cause a laugh attack.

Kinley began to fill out the forms necessary for the school photos. While sifting through, she noticed there was an option for the parents to write their child’s name printed on the photographs itself. Her eyes gleamed as she carefully peered at the information and realized she wanted to pass up the option.

Kinley decided to have the pictures of just Mason without any additional verbage. According to the form, she couldn’t leave that section blank and so Kinley wrote the words that would live in 2020 infamy: “I DON’T WANT THIS”.

Next thing you know, Kinley received 30 copies of Mason’s cute school pictures with the engraving, “I DON’T WANT THIS” labelled at the bottom left corner.

There’s no turning back from this innocent mistake!

She posted the image on social media along with the hashtags #idowantthis and #if2020wasaschoolphoto.

“I’m sure everyone needs a good laugh these days so thanks to my latest mom fail…you’re welcome in advance haha.

Mason got his kindergarten pictures and I didn’t want his name on the bottom so I typed in “I don’t want this” and they freaking printed this… so now I have like 30 pictures of him with this on the bottom.”

Mom seemed to not hold any grudges or resentment. In fact, she totally acknowledges her accident and tries to embrace it with positivity. On the other hand, Mason became somewhat of a celebrity after the post caught on. He said how he would make many people laugh with joy, including his teachers who also had great words of encouragement.

“He’ll occasionally ask how many more people is he making laugh,” Kinley said, adding “his teachers gave him a round of applause and yelled, ‘I do want this!’ during drop off!’”

Mason has become the talk of the town!

His photograph has gone viral and received over 38,000 shares and 16,000 likes all on Facebook alone.

It’s easy to see how this little influencer has been garnering so much attention. He has a fantastic smile and deep, round eyes to boot. Later down the road he’ll probably look back and be grateful to his mom that she spoke her mind on paper, even when she didn’t have to.

“I think 2020 has been such a hard year for everyone and people need some positivity and a good laugh,” Kinley commented. “I’ve gotten so many messages from people saying they haven’t laughed this hard all year and that it made their day. I never thought it would have that effect but I’m so glad we can spread laughter in a crazy time like this.”

Kinley did in fact attempt to reach out to the photography company in hopes of reprinting the photos without any words, but unfortunately, it looks like she has not been able to be successful in her endeavor. No hard feelings though, as Kinley admitted that it was her own “mom fail” that landed her in this situation.

Mason and his mom may not have the photographs they hoped for, but at least they created fond memories and celebrated their pictures together.
