Mana Srivate has been a rescue worker in Thailand for 26 years but he was off duty the night he came across an unfortunate baby elephant that had been hit by a motorcycle. Mana had been on a road trip when he heard the commotion and came to discover that the baby elephant was in need of some serious help. He began to perform CPR on the poor creature in the hopes of reviving it… and it worked! After about ten minutes the baby stood up again. Mana said,

”It is my instinct to save lives, but I was worried the whole time because I can hear the mother and the other elephants calling for the baby.”

Thankfully Mana discovered the accident, otherwise who knows if the baby elephant would have survived. It is not very common to come across someone who would know what to do in that kind of situation, let alone know how to give a wild animal CPR.

In the video that was posted to Facebook you can see Mana on his knees pressing on the side of the elephant. It somehow seems impossible for a human to have the strength to give an elephant CPR but Mana managed to do it and save a life! But how did he know where to do the compressions? According to him, he made an educated guess,

”I assumed where an elephant heart would be located based on human theory and a video clip I saw online. When the baby started to move, I almost cried.”

In the Facebook video, of the scene of the accident, you can see the elephant surrounded by a lot of concerned onlookers and people wanting to help. Thankfully, the only person or animal that was hurt in that accident was the baby elephant and he managed to survive so there were no casualties. It is so heartwarming to see so many people concerned about the life of one baby elephant! At one point in the video there were at least four different men working over it.

Once the elephant woke up, you can see in the video that it was stumbling around trying to stand up. It seemingly was still disoriented from the ordeal and there were a couple of men by it’s side trying to help it to stand up. The baby elephant was taken to a facility where it was treated to make sure everything was okay. After it was confirmed that it had a full recovery, it was taken back to the accident site so it could be reunited with it’s mother. It took a few minutes but it’s mother heard it crying out for her and she and the other elephants returned and were reunited.

Mana said that out of all the CPR’s that he has performed, the baby elephant is the only one that he has revived so far. Hopefully, Mana will continue to save the lives of innocent creatures in the future because thanks to him, that baby elephant was saved and that mother did not lose her child!
