Man discovers $43K in used couch cushions – gives every dime back to woman who donated the couch
Finding money is one thing, but over $40k is insane! That would be a hard choice, would you give the money back?

We’ve all done it, bought something used and checked just in case there might be any hidden treasures. Usually, you don’t find much except some lint and leftover crackers. One man, however, bought a used couch from the Habitat for Humanity and found 43k dollars secretly hidden throughout the piece of furniture.

You’re not going to believe what the honest man did with the money, you can’t make this stuff up!

Howard Kirby from, Ossowo, Michigan, shows us that good morals still exist. When he finds $43k inside a used couch he bought and gives every cent back

Howard likes to shop at the Habitat for Humanity resale store, in Saginaw- Shiawassee. On this particular occasion, he was looking for a comfy couch to put in his man-cave. He ended up purchasing a used couch with an ottoman to rest your feet on.

They took the couch to Howards man-cave and he began using the couch to relax on. Only when his daughter noticed how uncomfortable the ottoman was, did she start to investigate.

His daughter could tell there was something hard hidden in the ottoman but had no clue what. That’s when she opened it to take a look

Upon unzipping the ottoman, the Kirby family got the surprise of a lifetime. After she opened up the foot-rest, Howard’s daughter starting pulling money out, stack after stack.

They couldn’t believe their eyes, the Ossowa residents had to pinch themselves to make sure it wasn’t a dream. After pulling over 40 thousand dollars out of the cushion, Howard contacted a lawyer who informed him he had no legal obligation to return the money.

Even with no legal obligation to give it back, Howard knew that his morals wouldn’t allow him to keep the money. So he contacted the store to figure out who had donated the couch

Kim Fauth-Newberry donated the “cash-couch” after her grandfather passed away and she had nowhere to put it. Obviously, she had no idea that there was over $40k hidden in the ottoman. Kim was so touched by the selfless gesture, she could hardly speak as tears poured down her face.

“It’s just crazy.” Kim told WNEM TV 5 news, her husband added: “Why’s he’s got money in cushions, I don’t know.”

$43,170 was the total amount found in the piece of furniture, but Howard didn’t bat an eye returning it

Everyone involved was totally touched by Howard’s honest nature. The store manager, Rick Merling, had never seen anything like it and was inspired by the selfless act.

“Just doing the right thing. This is someone who in spite of what they’re going through, in spite of their own needs has said: ‘I’m just going to do the right thing.'” Rick, told WNEM 5.

“I’ve heard it done so many other times, and I always thought, what would I do if that ever happened? Now I know and it makes me feel good.”
