Not all of us are wizards when it comes to technology. Fortunately, David and David from Payette Forward are. They’re here to guide us through getting our iPhones into tip-top, battery-saving shape!

iPhone Analytics

This setting actually sends information to Apple, which according to David, “drains your battery and presents a privacy issue about how you use your phone.” The reason is to help Apple improve – yet, the guys still recommend you turn the analytics off.

To do so, open “Settings” on your phone. Then scroll to “Privacy” followed by “Analytics.” Now you’ll be able to turn off “Share iPhone Analytics.”

iCloud Analytics

This is in the same location as the iPhone Analytics in the previous tip. While you’re there, turn this setting off too. It’s a similar data collecting feature that will affect your battery life.

Significant Locations

This setting uses GPS to help track your locations – which allows it to “deliver relevant advertising to you.” The reason David says is to “make your experience better” – but it’s not necessary.

Here’s how to turn it off. Go to “Privacy” again in the “Settings” app. Next, find “Location Services,” then scroll to “System Services.” This is where you’ll find “Significant Locations.” Now just tap it off.

Almost Everything in System Services

If you’re looking to save your battery, this will help do the trick. These services are always running when turned on – which can affect it. So, simply turn some of them off.

Go back to “System Services” on your iPhone. Here, you’re going to select only a few settings to leave on. The expert recommends that you KEEP “Emergency Calls & SOS,” “Find My iPhone,” and “Share My Location.”

Other than those you probably won’t miss the rest, so turn them off. However, be sure to watch the video below to hear what David and David say about them all – just to be sure!

Limit Ad Tracking

If you value your privacy, then this is a good setting to actually click “on.” Head back to “Privacy” and scroll to find “Advertising.” Here’s where you’ll click, “Limit Ad Tracking.”

David explains:

“This really prevents advertisers from tracking you as you use your iPhone connected to the internet and they track you from site, to site, to site, to site – and get more information about you.”

Fetch New Data

If you’re someone who doesn’t need to know at every moment if there’s a new email, this is a brilliant tip that will help save your battery life. Start back at “Settings” and click on “Passwords and Accounts.” Now go to “Fetch New Data.”

This is where you’ll make sure that “Push” is turned off. Instead, change your accounts to “Fetch” and set up how often you want your iPhone to look for new information like emails.

In the video, David has his set to every 15 minutes. Be sure to watch for more details on this setting!

Background App Refresh (for certain apps)

The expert says, “Background App Refresh allows certain apps to download data in the background even when you’re not using them.” This isn’t necessary for all the apps you have, and you probably won’t notice any difference.

Go to the “Settings” screen and tap on “General.” Then go to “Background App Refresh.” You’ll next go through the list and select the ones you don’t need this feature for (turning them off).

As for David, he chooses to keep apps like “News” and “Espn” on – but not some others he doesn’t need constantly updated.
