Model Smashes Historic Statue, And People Are Freaking Out
It was a ploy to get more followers but may have ended her modeling career instead.

A wannabe Instagram “influencer” from Krakow, Poland pulled a historically disrespectful stunt in an effort to gain more followers.

As you might imagine, 17-year-old Julia Slonska is getting slammed the world over for hammering off the nose of a 200-year-old angel statue in Warsaw’s Swiss Valley Park.

A video taken by friends shows her making eye contact with whoever is filming, then roughly pounding off the nose of the angel in a few strokes.

The “after” shot is a close-up of the angel, now missing its entire nose.

It’s a sad moment for anyone who appreciates history, civic architecture, or just being a good and respectful citizen.

The moment is made even worse by the cackling laughter of the people in the background, presumably part of Slonka’s group of friends.

The video was uploaded live to Instagram by a friend of Slonka’s and then ended up on YouTube.

According to the website heavy., Slonska told a Polish news site that she and her friends had been drinking in the park before the incident (while Europe tends to tolerate teenage drinking, one has to be 18 to buy alcohol in Poland, therefore the assumption is that one should also be 18 to drink).

Slonska also said in an interview that her friends handed her a hammer and encouraged her to damage the statue as a prank to get a larger Instagram following. Saying she didn’t give much thought to what she was doing at the time, she later regretted the act.

It’s important to note that Slonska herself contacted the police to report her crime (though with a viral video out there, it was only a matter of time before she got caught).

According to Polish law, she could get anywhere from 6-8 months in prison for the vandalism.

Many commenters are calling for jail time (and worse) for the young woman for her act of vandalism. The anger is certainly warranted, but we wonder if it might be more fitting to make her spend a couple thousand hours cleaning up that park or tending to statues around the city.

Slonka quickly posted an apology to her Instagram stories that was captured in a YouTube video (and translated into English):

“What happened yesterday should not have taken place at all and seriously, I regret that I did it. I’m so stupid. I will not say what was driving me, why I did it because it is more of a private affair, but I really wanted to apologize to everyone.”

Curiously, her apology has caused even more anger, with some claiming that her remorse was insincere (though frankly, we’re not sure what else they wanted from her). Then again, we wonder who brings a hammer to a park if they don’t intend to do some damage.

It’s clear that social media has given people a platform to share their worst behavior all in the name of some laughs or, more frequently, notoriety. But while people are quick to blame younger generations for this, it doesn’t take long to find people of every age embarrassing themselves online on a daily basis.

The aspiring actress has now lost her biggest acting and modeling contract with a Polish bank after complaints from customers and has been terminated by her modeling agency.

While the angel is regarded as a historic piece of art, there are conflicting reports about its age and history.

Even if it is a post-war sculpture, as some claim, it’s still a public piece of art that will need repair. Temporary filler has been added to the nose for now.

The video is below if you can bear to watch. Over 27,000 people have seen this clip, which we assume was not posted by one of her posse since it’s titled “Stupid girl destroys 200-year-old statue,” but who knows? Some people would do anything for their 15 minutes of fame.
