We are living in a world where unexpected things happen. Sometimes something positive will happen but unfortunately, there are things that we least expect to happen which are bad things.
Normal human beings can never foresee the future unless they are psychics who have the ability to be clairvoyant. Or they are 100 or 200 percent super cautious enough to be safe at all times.
The video that you are about to witness is a clip about a doctor who saved a man’s life using a D.I.Y catheter.
Someone’s flight of doom
You can travel far by boat or a ship. However, the most convenient way to travel abroad is via airplane. Most of the people usually ride planes to reach their destinations faster.
There are plenty of risks when we are traveling. Risk of accidents happening, the risk of having a mental breakdown due to motion sickness, and there are is also a huge possibility wherein someone’s health condition while taking flight.
Unfortunately for one man who did not identify himself found himself in a struggle to survive a 13-hour flight from China to New York.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH
The Chinese citizen who is in severe pain had a history of prostate enlargement or Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
An enlarged prostate can cause uncomfortable urinary symptoms such as blocking the flow of urine from the urinary bladder. This is what caused the man to struggle while he is aboard Boeing 787 on China Southern Flight CZ399.
People having BPH experience serious complications leading to kidney, urinary tract or severe urinary bladder problems.
It would seem like the man who is struggling on that plane is having a problem of letting those unwanted juices out of the human body.
Doctor on the Fly
Luckily for the patient, a Doctor was on board that plane. Dr. Zhang Hong became the hero of the day as he saved the man’s life without proper medical instruments.
Picture this scenario in your mind, one person on the verge of death, one doctor without pieces of equipment, a few people for as supporting characters and they are still six hours away to reach their destination.
Sounds like a scene in a movie right? Except this is the real thing.
The D.I.Y doctor
To save the patient’s life, Dr. Hong quickly decided to create a catheter out of a syringe, a straw, and a plastic tube out of an oxygen mask.
Dr. Hong might have watched a lot of DIY videos on YouTube to have created this life-saving apparatus by himself or he is just a genius putting his brain and profession into action.
He used the equipment that he created to suck 800 millimeters of urine from the man’s body. He did that in over 37 minutes to save the person.
“If we had not dealt the situation in time, the patient’s life would have been at risk,” said Dr. Hong the head of vascular surgery at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University.
It is true that there are always risks when we step out of the house, luckily there are also heroes who might save us like what Dr. Hong did when we will be in trouble.

Respect! A #doctor on a flight from Guangzhou to New York uses a makeshift device to suck urine out of an old man’s body when the man is found to be in danger of breaking his #bladder due to inability to urinate. 2 doctors on board help solve the crisis. https://t.co/zQwXU2mOqJ pic.twitter.com/hZJPVXeaqw
