Typically, prison is a place you want to leave, not break into. For this lost pooch, a prison in Alabama ended up being a safe-haven full of love. The dog had wandered off while bird hunting with his owner, only to be discovered living the high-life in the most unlikely of places.
The friendly dog was having the time of his life, he even got to eat steak one night!
Lee and Michael Parker, were distraught when their dog, Soup, accidentally wandered off and got lost one day
Soup is a 3-year-old English Setter, who is more like a son to the Parkers. Born on Lee’s birthday, they knew from the start he was meant to be theirs. On a cold day this last December, Soup, and Michael were out training for the upcoming quail season.
During the training, Soup caught a smell and took off after it. The young dog was too quick for Michael, he disappeared leaving the Parkers searching across Montgomery County, Alabama, for their lost pup.
Automatically fearing the worst, the Parkers searched high and low for their missing family member
They began to post on social media pleading for help, checking the local Humane Society 3-4 times a day, and looking themselves for their beloved dog, Soup.
Days went by with no sign of Soup, the Parkers began thinking they may never see their pooch again. That’s they got a call from the last place they expected. A prison guard at Kilby Correctional Facility, contacted the couple to let them know their dog was alive and well.
Charles Brooks is a prison guard at Kilby who had also lost his dog. While searching for his own puppy, he came across Soups picture and a light bulb went off
That was the dog who had mysteriously popped up at the prison just days earlier! He immediately contacted the Parkers to deliver the great news.
Michael rushed to the prison to retrieve the lost English Setter, only to find him having the time of his life. The inmates took a liking to the dog right away, he began receiving treats like chicken, steak, and even peach cobbler!
When Michael Parker found his dog, Soup, he jumped into his arms but it was clear he had gained a fondness for the prison and its inmates
Michael explained that although Soup’s love for him was obvious, he could tell he didn’t want to leave his new friends. I’m sure he was getting used to all the yummy human treats and extra attention he was getting, being the “star on the yard.”
“When I picked him up, he looked at me then he looked back at his friend, he looked at me. It was like he was about to pull a quarter out of his pocket and call it in the air for whether he was going to stay or not.” Michael told WSAV 3 NEWs.
The Parkers decided they would keep Soups new friends in his life, they plan on taking him for visits to the prison, along with a pecan pie to thank them. To see the incredible story for yourself, watch the video below!
