At a glance, most would say that Jia and Zuri aren’t twins. Nor would the average person say they’re even blood-related.

However, these two “sisters” would beg to differ with people’s opinions. Even their moms are supportive of the girls’ decision – because it’s a reasoning that’s enough to bring a tear to your eye.

Many of us formed close bonds with other kids when we were young, sometimes even developing into close relationships. But not everyone has experienced finding their “twin.”

Jia Sarnicola and Zuri Copeland are six-years-old and have been friends for a couple of years now. They met in school, both residing with their families in Miami, Florida.

When it comes to being “twins,” it’s not because the girls have the same mother. They also aren’t of the same race and have different hair colors as well.

To Jia and Zuri, however, there are lots of other important details that make them more than just sisters.

Jia’s mom, Ashley, told CBS News:

“They will tell you that they are twins and they have a long list of reasons why to back it up.”

The girls believe they’re almost the same height, and their birthdays are practically the same (just two days apart). On top of that, they try and dress alike showing how similar they are.

Despite being young, the friends too have dealt with problems in a society that isn’t always so kind.

Not everyone agrees that they seem like twins, and their moms realize that the world is tough out there. Zuri’s mom, Valencia, explained:

“You know, you’re happy for a few seconds and then you become sad because they have to grow up – and then society takes over.”

One situation that was rough on Jia and Zuri took place at a birthday party. An older child told the girls that because their skin color isn’t the same, they can’t be twins.

The response Jia gave is both beautiful and chilling. She was upset, but confidently told the kid:

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. We’re twins because we share the same soul.'”

When their moms heard about what happened, they were deeply moved by the “same soul” comment. Valencia expressed to CBS News:

“I was just thrown by just that word.”

She also said,

“We have a lot to learn and we can learn from children.”

But as we know, having a sister isn’t always easy – and sometimes, even twins can argue. It’s no different for Jia and Zuri.

Overall though, there isn’t anything that’s breaking these two friends apart. There are things in life that seem meant to be, and even when they first met they clicked.

Ashley told ABC News a couple of years back:

“They’re both little Geminis. They have very strong personalities and are both super outgoing, well-spoken, intelligent, and not afraid to tell you what they want. They hit it off right away.”

Seeing the close bond between Jia and Zuri has pulled on the heartstrings of people everywhere. On CBS’ YouTube channel, one commenter wrote:

“OMG They look like twins to me …Their eyes are the windows to their souls !! Two perfect souls are always Twins !!”

Another person shared:

“If only older people would be as open minded as these kids and how their generation looks beyond “categories” and “social biases”, the world could learn a lot.”
