Seeing this sweet encounter between dog and child is a breath of fresh air.

However, getting your baby and your dog off to a great start takes more work than you might have expected. To some it may come more natural than others but sometimes dogs need to adjust to no longer getting as much attention as they once did because of a new addition.

Although dogs are generally inclined to love children, it is still better to plan and prepare for your little one and your furry baby’s first meeting. Certain considerations must be done to make their introduction as safe, loving, and special as possible. Once the relationship is built, you will surely appreciate the many benefits that having a pet can do to your child.

In a sense, pet dogs are also like the children in the family. They love attention so much! When actual children come into the picture, getting the pups ready becomes an important step to make living together as smooth and as worry-free as possible.

You can start building familiarity in your dogs by giving them an idea of who your child is.

For example, you can bring a cloth used by your child and have your pet dog sniff it before introducing them to each other. Since dogs have very sensitive noses, they will instantly recognize the baby’s smell and associate them as family since they can smell their scent all over the home.

This way, your dog will already know that your child is a family member once they get a hint of their smell. When they finally meet each other, the introduction will certainly be smoother.

Once your dog is familiar with the baby’s unique identity, you will see that your pet will surely have no difficulty approaching your child. Of course, you still need to supervise every moment your dog gets near the infant or better yet, you can limit their interaction at first and gradually increase the frequency of their bonding moments as your child grows.

This infant’s sweet encounter with the family dog is only the beginning of an even sweeter relationship. We can’t help but feel glad that even at this age, children are taught to appreciate the presence of animals in their lives.

Later on, you’ll find that having a pet can benefit your child in a lot of ways. Being around pets gives them an awareness of how people should treat animals.

Playing with pets also adds to the joy of children, giving them more emotional stability and positive health effects.
