One thing is certain: When Adam Lambert does a cover, it’s going to be good. The hit artist has been soaking up the limelight since 2009, when he became the runner-up on the 8th season of American Idol. He may not have won the competition, but he captured the hearts of viewers around the country.

Adam has achieved more musical success than other American Idol stars. Since his rise to the top, he has sold over 3 million albums and 5 million singles. Music lovers around the world just can’t get enough of him, and for good reason – this man is TALENTED.

Back in 2011 Adam became the newest member of Queen, but sometimes he still surprises us with a solo performance. His tribute to Cher was one such moment, and it has people all over the globe talking.

Adam took the stage at the 41st Annual Kennedy Center Honors that was hosted early in December, and everyone in the audience knew this was going to be a good performance. Stars and celebrities filled the room, and all eyes were on Adam.

When the music started playing, Adam’s audience was instantly confused. They all recognized the words; they were from Cher’s “Believe.” The song was a hit from her album of the same name, released in 1998. The song had swept the nation when it first came out, and – like all of Cher’s masterpieces – it is still iconic today.

Adam’s spin on the song, however, was completely different from what you might expect. The original version came out during the time of grunge and alternative rock, so it had a bit of edge to it. Adam’s version, however, almost resembles a lullaby as it starts off.

The artist began by singing softly and sweetly; he was definitely making this song his own. He poured his heart into this rendition, and each note was saturated with emotion. Cher herself had every reason to be impressed.

The pop song we all know and love is dominated by a techno beat, but Adam’s version is much more mellow. He somehow managed to raise the intensity of his voice in just the parts where Cher would be belting her heart out while still keeping this slower, much more emotional vibe.

Everyone in the crowd had their eyes fixed on Adam. Of course they all knew the song, but hearing him sing it like this was like hearing something totally new.

There were plenty of emotional reactions to Adam’s powerful performance, but none were better than that of Cher herself.
