An unfortunate aspect of aging is that we lose the ability to do certain things.

As we age, our joints don’t stay as strong, our memory begins to fade, and our stamina is severely affected.

A trail that we used to hike is now too steep for us to handle.

The words to a song that we used to love now evade our memory.

Getting across town has to be done by car now that we don’t have the energy to ride our bike.

There are ways to help mitigate this decline–working out, eating healthy, and doing mental exercises–but we can’t last forever.

Our bodies just weren’t made to do so.

So when one older woman shows off her dance moves, everyone in the crowd is blown away.

This 96-year-old woman shows us that age doesn’t have to keep you from doing the things that you love.

As the video starts, the woman is in the front of an entire group of dancers out on a dance floor.

She is smiling and seems happy to be out there, clapping along to the beat.

Of course, it’s easy to believe that this is all she will do.

And no one would fault her for just wanting to be out there and clapping along with the rest of the dancers.

At her age, dancing isn’t the easiest thing to do.

But as the lyrics come in on the song, grandma throws her hands into the air and does a few steps with her feet.

The rest of the group is dancing along as well, all preforming the same routine.

She goes from those two little steps to a quick hop and skip with her feet, moving fast and showing off her agility.

She sways her hips and does a little spin.

And honestly, she isn’t just a good dancer for being so old.

She is simply a good dancer–period.

I have no doubt that if I was out there on that dance floor with her I wouldn’t be able to keep up.

The song continues and so does the old woman.

She dances along with the rest of the group and does so with style and grace.

Seeing this is an inspiration.

It’s so easy to use your age as an excuse not to do things.

But this woman is living proof that age really is just a number.

If you want to get out and do something that you love, then you better not let your age get in the way of that.

And the great thing about doing something active that you love is that it’s beneficial for your overall happiness as well as your physical health.

According to Your Care Everywhere, “Research has found that dancing improves strength and muscle function in older adults, as well as increasing balance and flexibility, leading to better stability and fewer injuries. Dancing can also improve your cardiovascular health, which will decrease your chances of developing heart disease.”
