Tons of fabulous opera singers have come and gone over the centuries, but none of have been older, wiser, or more inspiring than the humble, virtual unknown Italiano known as Angelo Loforese.

This man is unique in the world of opera, because we actually get to “see” his decades of classical education in action. And by see, I don’t mean that his mouth opening and closing, although we certainly get to see that too.

Remember the movie Alien, where the nefarious little space baby wiggles around inside actor John Hurt’s chest, before it suddenly makes its shocking grand entrance?

Well, that’s sort of how Angelo’s tummy moves around, except the only thing that unexpectedly pops out of him is an incredibly beautiful voice!

During an informal practice session, which was filmed right after Angelo came off a long, 13-hour flight to Japan, we can hear his stunning vocals fill the room with “Nessun Norma,” a very challenging aria from the opera Turandot.

If you don’t know what an aria is, it’s basically means “air.” Once you see Angelo in his full-blown glory, you’ll understand why opera nabbed that word for themselves.

It’s not all about that bass, but the breath!

In the video, two talented young virtuoso’s can be heard accompanying Angelo’s fluid, dramatic toning with their violin and piano, but it’s Angelo’s singing that stands out as the main act.

His voice is so astonishingly clear, especially for someone his age, it’s hard to believe he’s not lip-syncing to a recording playing in the background.

As you continue to watch, you might even start to convince yourself that he was born with 6 sets of lungs, due to the way he belts out the aria with such strength, grace, and ease!

But, that’s not what really sets him apart. Yes, his too-surreal-to-be-real voice is pure magic, but keep an eye on his belly as he sings, and watch as he lifts it high up into the air. Now that’s where a real voice comes from, not the diaphragm, but the lower abs!

Opera was born over 400 years ago during the Italian Renaissance, a period of cultural, political, and artistic “rebirth” that came hot off the heels of the Dark Ages and its infamous Plague.

It was a time when we went from being “dumb and dumber” to culturally enlightened, and opera played a big role in that bringing us out of the dark and into a beautiful new age.

Of course, only a lucky few were gifted enough to give voice to opera. But, that gift still lives on today in people like Angelo, and we all get to benefit from that bounty.
